The Century 21 Exposition's
"jewel-box" fairgrounds were graced by fountains and pools,
the space-gothic arches of the U.S. Science Pavilion,
and fantastic structures "shaped like bubbles, stars, sunbursts,
flowers, and rippling ribbons" (10).
The futuristic Coliseum,
with its soaring hyperbolic paraboloid roofline,
housed the World of Tomorrow exhibit. A nebula
of some 3,000 aluminum cubes floated in midair in the center.
